Yesterday we went to a friend’s birthday party. At one point, we sat down on the floor with a 7-month-old and her mom. You and the little girl seemed fascinated by each other. Early in the encounter, the girl’s mom held her hands so she could stand; slowly and gently, you walked up to her and gave her a sweet hug.
The two of you returned to playing on the floor, trading partly-drunk plastic water bottles and shaking them. Then, unprompted and to the great surprise of both adults, you very slowly and gently moved in and kissed the little girl – right on the lips! The baby girl smiled and laughed, mirroring her mom and me.
In the course of the next 15 or 20 minutes, you kissed that little girl 2 or 3 more times, always on the lips. She smiled each time, and her mom and I really got a kick out of it. Although you’ve been very excited about giving kisses to Daddy, me and your sister, this is the first time you’ve kissed anyone outside the family. You can be somewhat aggressive about kisses at home, too, but you were so sweet and gentle with her, it was truly wonderful to watch.
